Client Background:

Our client, a visionary leader who played an instrumental role in the formulation of the "Supply Chain Due Diligence Act" in Germany, came to us with a unique challenge. Given their intimate understanding of the law, they sought a robust SaaS solution that would help companies ensure their supply chains were in compliance with the new regulations.

Challenge:

Germany's "Supply Chain Due Diligence Act" mandates that companies with a workforce of over 3,000 employees (after 2024 over 1,000 employees) establish rigorous risk management protocols for their supply chains. The primary objective is to ensure that suppliers adhere to human rights standards. The law emphasizes stringent monitoring, validation, and transparent reporting of the supply chain to ensure no human rights violations occur. Companies needed a tool to not only define these risk management parameters but also to oversee a vast array of suppliers methodically.

Solution:

Leveraging our expertise in software development and understanding of the intricacies of the new law, we devised an application tailored to guide companies through the entire process. Here’s what we built:

  1. Guided Workflow: Our application walks companies step-by-step through the risk management dimensions, ensuring that nothing is overlooked.

  2. Scalability: Designed to handle large numbers of suppliers, companies can execute risk management protocols systematically and efficiently.

  3. In-Depth Analysis: The application offers a comprehensive analysis toolset to delve deep into supplier data and validate their adherence to human rights standards.

  4. High-Level Reporting: An auditable reporting feature ensures transparency and can serve as legally valid documentation.

  5. Technology Stack: We utilized React and Electron, allowing for deployment as both a desktop application and a SaaS solution. This dual approach caters to companies' varied needs and offers flexibility in deployment.

  6. API Integration: Two distinct APIs were developed. One supports the classic SaaS model, and the other facilitates clients who wish to host the application in their private cloud, ensuring maximum security and data sovereignty.

Results:

The final product was a seamless blend of technical innovation and legal insight. Companies now had a powerful tool at their disposal to navigate the complexities of the "Supply Chain Due Diligence Act". Not only did this solution simplify compliance, but it also fostered a sense of trust and reliability among companies and their stakeholders.

Conclusion:

At Browserbite, we believe in translating challenges into meaningful solutions. Our collaboration with the client led to the creation of a platform that was not just technologically sound but also rooted in real-world legal requirements. Through this endeavor, we reinforced our commitment to delivering solutions that drive change and set new industry standards.

our contribution

We guided our client through the product development process and also designed the UI/UX of the application.
We build two APIs, one for managing all billing-related activities and one for the users that could as an alternative also be hosted locally or in the cloud of the end customer.
We implemented the front end using electron to also allow the building of the application as a native desktop app.
